Yerba Buena Center for the Arts: 701 Mission St San Francisco, CA 94103 Get Directions

You’re invited to join us in celebrating 25 years of pursuing justice for refugees.
For two and a half decades, the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies has advanced protections for women, children, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others fleeing persecution. In these unprecedented times, we invite you to come together to resist, celebrate hard-fought victories, and recommit to the pursuit of safety, justice, and dignity for all those who come to our borders seeking protection.
The evening will feature a vibrant reception with generous hors d'oeuvres, live music, and an inspiring program led by renowned speakers and asylum advocates whose stories remind us why this work is so vital. Learn more about our anniversary year here.
Our featured speakers include:
Caitlin Dickerson: Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist, whose reporting on immigration, history, policy, and race has sparked policy change and brought attention to some of the world’s most pressing humanitarian issues. Photo credit: Earl Wilson / The New York Times
Karen Musalo: CGRS Founding Director and Professor & Chair in International Law at UC Law San Francisco whose scholarship and litigation has championed the rights of asylum seekers and shaped the law in the United States.
Anabel Bonilla: Mother and asylum activist whose courage paved the way to protect asylum for survivors of gender-based violence in the landmark case Matter of A-B.
With a special message from Jonathan Blitzer, award winning staff writer at The New Yorker, and author of Everyone Who is Gone is Here: The United States, Central America, and the Making of a Crisis. Event attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Everyone Who is Gone. Photo credit: Thea Traff
